Our name
Upeo
/oo-PEH-oh/ · noun · Swahili
Horizon: the furthest point you can see, and the highest point you can reach.
A name for what good software should do
We chose Upeo because it describes what good software should do for a business. It should open up what's possible, and it should keep making room to grow.
Afrika is the Swahili spelling of Africa. It keeps the name rooted where we work, for businesses across the continent.

Our story
Upeo Afrika builds software, automation and cloud solutions for African businesses with discipline from the very first line of code. We believe the first step decides how far a system can go. A foundation laid carefully today is one you can keep building on for years, without having to start over.
Start Right. Grow Limitless.
That's the idea behind our tagline.
- Start right is about discipline: getting the first step right, from the first line of code.
- Grow limitless is the horizon Upeo stands for: a foundation built right has no ceiling.
How we work
Six habits that keep projects on track and systems easy to live with long after launch.
- 01
We listen first
Before we suggest anything, we learn how your business runs and what's slowing it down.
- 02
We work in the open
Priorities, progress and problems are shared with you as they happen, in plain language.
- 03
We show our work
You see working software every two weeks and can change direction early.
- 04
We build to last
Clean code, sensible structure and proper documentation, so the system is easy to maintain and extend.
- 05
We work as one team
Your people test every release, and what they tell us decides what we build next.
- 06
We stay involved
After launch we host, monitor and improve what we built.
How a project runs
We work in an agile way. Here's what that means, and the six stages every system goes through, from the first idea to the day it's replaced.
In plain words
What does “agile” mean?
Agile is a way of building software a little at a time. Instead of disappearing for months and showing you everything at the end, we build a small piece, show it to you working, and use what you think of it to decide what to build next. Then we do it again.
It's a bit like cooking for guests: you taste as you go and adjust, rather than finding out at the table that it needed more salt.
All at once
- Everything is decided up front
- You see the result months later
- Problems show up at the end, when they cost the most
The agile way
- Decisions are made as you learn
- You see working software every two weeks
- Problems show up early, while they're cheap to fix

Step 1 of 6
Concept
Is this worth building?
We talk through what you want to achieve, what matters most and what it's worth to your business. Together we decide whether to go ahead, and what to tackle first.
- A free first conversation
- The problem, in your words
- What success looks like, and what comes first
What we do
Four services from one team. Most projects start with one and grow into two or three.
Built with modern technology
- Modern web frameworks
- Mobile-ready interfaces
- Reliable databases
- Cloud infrastructure
- Security and monitoring
We work with modern, well-supported frameworks and tools, and pick each one for how well it will serve your project over the long run, not for what's fashionable.
